The Property sector has often been seen as a safe haven in the past. However, the shift to working from home and online retail as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic led to considerable question marks being raised. In the near term nobody knows for certain how stocks in the sector will react to this and certainly those companies with high levels of gearing will be nervous. Many property companies are currently trading at a steep discount to their net asset value. However, even in the longer term, historic values of properties could prove to be unreliable. In one form or another the Property sector is likely to remain a key part of the stock market but there will be winners and losers as changes continue to filter through.
