Although some investors may see the Insurance sector as being a little dull in comparison to some others, it contains some of the best-known names on the London Stock Exchange. For example, Aviva, Prudential and Direct Line Insurance Group all have tremendous brand recognition. Regulation in the industry has tightened in the recent past and although this may have made these companies more cautious in their operations it also means that the threat from new competitors has faded to some extent. Over the longer term there are still plenty of opportunities to generate capital growth from constituents of the Insurance sector and many also provide a higher than average yield, which is attractive to income seekers.
